Last month, Righter President Brad Nadolson, his wife Karen, and two of his four daughters, traveled to Haiti to partner with the group, I’m ME, whose approach is:
INDIGENOUS EMPOWERMENT – Those most affected by social problems are in the best position to determine and execute solutions for it. Every program we run is operated by locals on the ground.
ROOT OF THE PROBLEM – In order to see true change, we must understand and address the underlying, systemic contributors to social problems.
INVEST IN THE BEAUTY – We choose to focus on the potential and opportunity of those we serve. We aim to inspire others to partner with us to take actions that will change our world.
Brad and his family toured Papillon, whose mission is Orphan Prevention through job creation. “Papillon is providing hope to Haitian Artisans with the dignity of a job, training, and the ability to create something new out of something discarded and seemingly unusable. We use metal, cardboard, aluminum, dirt, and paper to make jewelry and other beautiful things.” While parents are working on jewelry or silk screening, their children are cared for through Apparent Project, whose mission is to Prevent Child Relinquishment in Haitian Families. Brad and his family learned of this heart-wrenching epidemic in Haiti, which is families sometimes have no other option than to give up their children because they cannot provide for them. The children are not unwanted! Thanks to organizations like I’m ME, Papillon, and Apparent Project, to name a few, families are staying together and even thriving! Workers at Papillon are paid a living wage, which is typically 3x what they would receive in wages elsewhere.
