At the 2018-2019 Awards Banquet held on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, The Righter Company was presented the following “100%” certificate for its effort in preventing accidents and injuries in the workplace. For all residents of Columbus, Tuesday, May 7, 2019, is the day to get out and vote YES on Issues 7, 8, 9, 10 & 11. The passing of these issues will keep Columbus thriving with $1.03 billion for clean drinking water, safe neighborhoods, excellent parks, new roads and sidewalks and housing that’s affordable for working families, in a dozen parts of the City. It will NOT result in a tax increase so it’s a win-win for everyone! Don’t fly solo on Election Day. “Since 1949, the month of May has been observed as Mental Health Month in the United States and many national organizations such as NAMI, Mental Health America, and other affiliates spotlight Mental Health Month to raise awareness about the importance of mental health and to stop the stigma associated with mental health disorders. The theme for this year’s Mental Health Month is Fitness #4Mind4Body, meaning that health is an all-encompassing matter and we must take care of our minds just as much as we take care of our bodies. Mental health is important for our physical health and vice versa. A well-balanced diet, a healthy sleep schedule, exercise, gut health, and hydration all affect our mental health and our physical health equally. Studies have shown that individuals who have chronic medical illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure or autoimmune disorders have a higher likelihood of being diagnosed with a mental health disorder such as depression or anxiety. Our bodies and mind act as one unit and therefore it is important to care for both our emotional and mental states as well as our physical health. Approximately one in five adults in the United States, 43.8 million, or 18.5%, experiences a mental illness in a given year and approximately one in five youth aged 13–18 (21.4%) experiences a severe mental health disorder at some point during their lifetime. For children aged 8–15, the estimate is 13%. Mental illness is not prejudiced; as mental health disorders affect men and women of all ages, races and social classes.”

Here at The Righter Company, we employ the services of e4health. It is a confidential, pre-paid service available to all Righter employees and their families. e4health is in place to assist us with things such as: financial difficulties, legal advice, grief, divorce, addictions, mental health disorders or even finding a day care provider or plumber! We realize the ripple effect that any sort of stress in the home can have on an employee. It can result in time away from work or, even worse, an employee could become distracted which could result in a jobsite accident or death. We strongly encourage our employees to utilize this program in hopes that balance will be restored.
It is National Work Zone Awareness Week. Out on the road, none of us wants to be the driver who ruins someone’s commute, day, or life. We must stay focused on what we are doing so that EVERYONE gets home safely. In roadway work zones, engineers and construction workers make safety their top priority every day—for drivers as well as themselves—and they count on passing drivers to work on safety, too.

The Righter Company is committed to safety in a BIG way to include utilizing daily safety checklists, conducting weekly safety talks, monthly jobsite safety visits by an outside consultant, on-going training, safety incentives, and having an open-door policy where any one at any time can speak directly to the President, without fear of repercussion, about a condition that he or she feels is unsafe. No deadline or profit is worth more to us than doing all that we can to make sure our men and women make it home.
It is Women in Construction Week so we take this opportunity here at Righter to do a shout-out to honor our three Women in Construction! Pictured below, left to right, are Tracy Ferguson (Controller), Julie Klay (Contract Administrator) and Bethany Nadolson (Estimating Assistant). Tracy and Julie just celebrated 19 years at the Big R and Bethany has been working with Righter for going on 2 years when she is not in Haiti serving the under-resourced. We appreciate the contributions of these three women!

At the annual Association for Bridge Construction and Design (ABCD) Awards Banquet held in Mason, Ohio, on Thursday, February 21, 2019, The Righter Company received the Outstanding Rehabilitated Short Span Bridge Award for work performed as the General Contractor on the Parker Covered Bridge project in Wyandot County, Ohio. The project included replacing main truss members, roofing and siding. Congrats to Mike Killilea, our Project Manager, and Clay Slevin, our Foreman, and the entire crew that worked on this project. Righter is honored to be a 2018 recipient!
